Screening for Plagiarism
The Universal Education Journal of Teaching and Learning (UEJTL) Editorial Team recognizes that plagiarism is unacceptable and therefore has established the following policy stating specific actions (penalties) if plagiarism is identified in an article submitted to UEJTL.
Definition:
Plagiarism is the intentional or unintentional act of obtaining or attempting to obtain credit or a grade for a scholarly work, by quoting part or all of the scholarly work and/or work of another recognized as one's own, without giving due recognition or credit to that scholarly work, without properly and adequately acknowledging the source.
To that end:
Articles must be original, unpublished, and not awaiting publication elsewhere. Material taken verbally from other sources must be clearly identified as distinct from the original text.
Plagiarism will be checked with the Turnitin application and if plagiarism is indicated, then the Editor-in-Chief or editor will ask the author to rewrite the article and will provide action according to the level of plagiarism detected, with the following guidelines:
1. Plagiarizing a few short sentences from another article without citing the source. Action: Write a warning and request to change the text and quote correctly.
2. Plagiarized most of another article without proper citations and did not cite the source. Action: The submitted article is rejected for publication in UEJTL, and the author may be penalized for not being allowed to publish in UEJTL.
All authors are responsible for their articles as they belong to them. If an article is classified as plagiarism after being checked with the Turnitin application, all authors will be subject to the same action.
If an author is found to be submitting a manuscript to UEJTL at the same time as submitting it to another journal, and this overlap is discovered during the review process or after publication, the action taken is in accordance with point 2 above. For this journal, the limit of plagiarism determined after checking with the Turnitin application is 25%.
If plagiarism occurs outside the above rules, the UEJTL editorial team has the right to take action in accordance with the editorial team's policies.
We hope that all authors have independently checked similarities on Turnitin. Authors can visit Turnitin via the following link.
